The Sebring EAA Chapter 1240 will again hold a fund-raising banquet during the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo, and this year’s featured speaker is J.J. Frey, known throughout the country as “Mr. Floatplane.”
Mr. Frey is the author of How to Fly Floats, long considered the bible of floatplane operations. Published in the early 1970s, more than 225,000 copies have been sold worldwide.
Frey is retired from EDO Corporation where he was vice president of Seaplane Operations. He had been with the company’s float operations for more than 35 years. A licensed private pilot since 1964, Frey has flown extensively throughout Canada and the United States, including Alaska. With almost 5,000 hours logged, he holds an instrument rating, as well as ratings for Single Engine Land, Multi-Engine Land, Single Engine Sea, and Multi-Engine Sea. Frey will share the story of how floatplanes were developed and how EDO Corp. developed floats that dominated the heyday of private aviation in the United States and around the world.
The dinner will be held at EAA Chapter 1240’s Aviation Development Center on Sebring Regional Airport; a social hour begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 and Mr. Frey’s presentation. Tickets are $50 each. EAA Chapter 1240 is a non-profit organization, so donations are tax-deductible. Monies raised at the banquet will help fund EAA Chapter 1240 Youth Programs. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.sebringeaa.org/dinner-on-the-water/.
