Perfect ski weather this weekend. About 15" of fluff to play in, all glassy water landings.

Looks like Black and White shots except for the Super Cub.

Bet you had a fun, but cold time.

Glenn,

Where are you getting gas up there. I see you were at Long Lake. Helms sell gas in the winter? It's a long ride from Rochester to start with.

Jim, behind the boat restaurant at the south end of Raquette Lk is a Efree gas pump. Stillwater has a pump also. You will need a can to haul at both. Helms has 100LL if you know how to run it unattended but it's $6.50. Lk Placid have a ski strip at the airport also. I start out full and throw 6 gal in the back seat.

Got this today about Lk Memphremagag flyin

flew over the meet area just west of Providence island today Feb 10.
There is lots of snow, but there are pickup trucks and fishing shacks in
various places on both sides of the Border and snowmobile trails, so
planes with good skis should not have a problem. Planes with just
wheels cannot attend as there is NO plowed ice runway. There was plenty
of space between obstructions for planes to land safely.

The ice is reported to be nearly two feet thick by ice fishermen.

There is a 3 or 4 foot high pressure ridge of pushed up ice running east
to west a few hundred yards south of the Border. Planes cannot taxi
across it. I believe US pilots will have to land from the East or from
the West to avoid this ridge. Canadian planes have nearly unlimited
miles of open snow covered ice to land.

The forecast for Saturday here is becoming cloudy and very cold, high of
6 degrees F. or -14 degrees C.

Bring something to eat, drink and maybe share.

We have permission from IBET to walk across the "border" area and see
each other's airplanes without the need for passports for this unique
event. It is not open to the general public.

By attending you agree to operate at our own risk. There is no event
sponsor or any insurance.

See my web site CTQ2.ORG for further details of this year's event.

I have received a lot of emails from pilots wishing to attend, so
prepare to have fun and be friendly with all your fellow aviators.

Sounds like a great Fly-in. The frozen lake ops remind me of snowmobiling wide open on a lake as a kid and then Wham! Right ski shot into the air as it hit a frozen solid 18" high pile of ice fishing hole slush, invisible in flat light until about 20 feet away, they were all over the lake I later cautiously found. Could be even worse for ski planes....

I think that they should set up Ski Jumps so guys could really have some fun with their planes. (Keep an alternate ride home ready though)

That sounds like a fun fly in but a long ways from Rochester in a slow plane. Thanks for the tip on gas. I'm familiar with getting gas at Helms. We've got about 2 feet of fresh snow around here. Went to Middlesex yesterday (south of town) and they had about 3 feet.

Haven't been to Long Lake in a long time. Looks great Glenn.

I had my Stress EKG today and though I will live, flying is still on hold at the moment.

Jim 122.75. or text 3 one 5 2 one 9 394for . Be careful, most all of the lakes are loaded with overflow. Some of it a foot deep. Indian lake was the only one I found safe. If you stay on where the sleds have packed it down you'll be ok.

Glenn,

Got a late start so I just went to Stillwater for lunch and then Redfield for a snack, then home. Great weather. I heard talk on 122.75 but it was very faint. Hope you had fun.

You guys are really getting your moneys worth out of those skis this year. You may not be switching to floats til May.

Looks great as always. Home come your plane is not in the pictures? Weather probably is too nice! :flying:

Wish I had some of that weather here. I am skiing in Utah and it is in the 40s with the sun out. Should have brought my water skis! :attack:

Good sign of spring. Just like Punxsutawney Phil, Timmy came out and picked up his screen today. Six more weeks of winter?

Wish that was the case here. It was in the 70s today on the mountain in Utah. Skiing in a lot of slush, though at least there was still a base.
