Got this today about Lk Memphremagag flyin
flew over the meet area just west of Providence island today Feb 10.
There is lots of snow, but there are pickup trucks and fishing shacks in
various places on both sides of the Border and snowmobile trails, so
planes with good skis should not have a problem. Planes with just
wheels cannot attend as there is NO plowed ice runway. There was plenty
of space between obstructions for planes to land safely.
The ice is reported to be nearly two feet thick by ice fishermen.
There is a 3 or 4 foot high pressure ridge of pushed up ice running east
to west a few hundred yards south of the Border. Planes cannot taxi
across it. I believe US pilots will have to land from the East or from
the West to avoid this ridge. Canadian planes have nearly unlimited
miles of open snow covered ice to land.
The forecast for Saturday here is becoming cloudy and very cold, high of
6 degrees F. or -14 degrees C.
Bring something to eat, drink and maybe share.
We have permission from IBET to walk across the "border" area and see
each other's airplanes without the need for passports for this unique
event. It is not open to the general public.
By attending you agree to operate at our own risk. There is no event
sponsor or any insurance.
See my web site CTQ2.ORG for further details of this year's event.
I have received a lot of emails from pilots wishing to attend, so
prepare to have fun and be friendly with all your fellow aviators.
