Anyone have contact information for Walt, who used to be the mechanic for Dick Bovey at Argyle Airport?

Well I got Walt's number from Jim, but he did not answer and now Dick can do it Wednesday (so he claims) so as much as I hate giving him any money I am having it done by him.

Thanks Glenn, Look for seeing you on the water soon. As much as I hate giving him any money at this point, I will try to get him to check me out for the insurance as soon as he had it done. Bobb

I could do that on Wednesday and part of Thursday and may do it. I told Bovey that I could come up and help on Wednesday or even Tuesday. Friday, Saturday and Sunday I am shooting in a three day Registered Skeet Tournament.

You've waited a couple years to get back in the floats saddle. Don't let that water go over the dam. How many shooting trophy's do you need Bob

I have been shooting registered Skeet since the early 70s. There are not that many registered shoots in the area anymore, so I am not missing this one. In any case, I have yet to hear from Dick confirming anything or if he will accept my help or start the checkout this week.

Can you get Wednesday off?

I already have Wed off, I had eye surgery so I've had more then Wed off. Do what you want but I'd be driving North Monday morning and would be a royal PITA to someone if I were you. Somehow by luck the window opened for you this coming week and if it we're me I'd have my head stuck in it so it won't close.
If this passes and your not flying don't be bitchin about not flying. Just trying to help :cowwave:

I talked to Bob just now and Tony, the guy that Bob uses. I thought it was Bob Green, but I guess that is another one. So if Dick doesn't do it on Wednesday then Tony will later this week and I have it set up so Everts can do my check out.

Well, Dick said they worked on it Thursday and part of Friday. They don't work on the weekends , so nothing happened until again until this week, but then the plane was not in the hanger and it rained Monday, so they did not work on it on Monday. Dick is being a regular dick. They hope to finish it this week? Can't wait to see the bill for all the bull.

Today they removed the water rudders so they could repair the hole that I was told was done a week ago yesterday and that they sent out a part for repair today, not expected until next week some time and of course they do not work on the weekends, so this is going to be a 3 week plus annual. Glad I did not go up, it would have been a waste of time and money. (But I am not bitching Glenn, just stating the facts.)

The hole was 1/4" punch hole from a bolt that was too long on the rudder steering arm going over center, probably from being heeled in on a beach. Ten minute fix for now and proper fix when you take it out in the fall. People wonder why aviation is dying :headbang:

Tell Bovey that. His 10 minute fix is taking 10 days. He claims that there was no water in the floats when it was pulled out and put in the hanger for the winter, but I had nothing to do with the plane last season.

I guess I better start looking for some skis.

That explains the wet trail on the floor when we went back in the hangar. The kid in the pictures father said he saw water running out when we were towing it away from the hangar.

That is interesting Glenn. Can't see where it would have taken on water in the hanger, so maybe there was lots of water in the float and it didn't reach the hole to drain until it was moved and the water slushed. In any case, it just needs to get patched and from what Dick said, I think he is going with the Gold Standard, multi-day to do it patch  rather than the 10 minute patch.

Thanks J.J., Don and I have talked. The Sedan and his 172 are going to be put up for sale and we are looking for an amphib to replace it with. No need to be so dependent on mechanic(s) that will do work at the island and more flexible. In any case, if the annual gets finished next week, I will go ahead and meet the insurance Make and Model requirements and get some hours in on the water. In the meantime I am flying my 172. Since it is a 0-300 145 HP I have no interest in trying to put floats on it. I might go and get some 172 HP Amphib time with Frank at Orange County.
