Welcome aboard, dude.

I'll have to come up to AZ and get you off the wagon wheeler and shuttling on SOMO! (pick a wheel size and be a dick about it ;) )

Long time coming. Now to build enough time by various means to be able to get an amphib (and keep the gear in the right location) so I can fly floats here in AZ.

Anyone else from AZ, maybe even with and float plane?

Not from AZ, but I'm right next to Adventure Seaplanes (in MN)! Have fun if you get there - the seaplane base does a great pig roast in August.

Greeting fellow Aviators!

I own a Luscombe 8E on EDO 1400's based in Ontario, Canada.
These groups are a great source of information and fun, look forward to chatting with you.
I will attach a pic, its not ver clear but will try and post some better pics when it is in the water, we have just finished a complete refurb on the plane and floats.

I fly a Boeing 777 now and will retire in about a year and a half.

Ditto on the welcome and the Pretty Luscombe. What motor? I was in a partnership recentlywith an 8E on 1400s with an 0-290. Was not a steller performaer, but one of the guys (A 777 Driver for American, by the way, who is retiring next month) has a 0-320 / 150 HP in his.

Hi Bob, its a continental C85 rebuilt with 0200 crank and pistons.
Last time it was on floats was 30 years ago, your right they are not great performers on floats. We acquired it in 1974 and interestingly enough it had spent most of its life as working airplane in northern Canada with a few lodges. It can't carry much, but must have been used for inspection, mail runs or something. I have the history of the plane back to the factory, it was maintained by Moody Larson in Michigan in the 50's, ex N2557K, came to Canada in 1961.

Welcome aboard. Triple ditto on the nice plane comments! My Avid isnt a stellar performer at gross with only 65 HP on floats, but it sure is a lot of fun to fly and a lot cheaper than the 180. Some hot days just coaxing it off the water at gross is fun and quite the challenge. HP makes a person lazy and not so critical of finding the sweet spot and keeping it there... for what seems like forever, to get the speed built up to be able to roll one float out and hope for more speed before the trees at the end get too big.

I'm Jules James of Seattle, a non-pilot. But the cover photo of the current edition of Water Flying Magazine was taken by my kid. I'm researching seaplanes on Lake Union. Final Approach is just outside my office window. 2014 is the centennial of Lake Union's first flight -- Silas Christopherson, July 17 1914 -- two years earlier and two blocks south of the site that became Bill Boeing's famous Seaplane Station. I found this forum while hunting the history of seaplane water rudders. If anyone has any tidbits, I'm all ears. Tail assembly water rudders were common in flying boats until 1920. I'm guessing EDO introduced float-mounted retractable twin water rudders in 1930 with Lindbergh's Lockheed Sirius one of the first so equipped. I'm also all ears for stories on Eddie Hubbard, Lana Kurtzer, Jim Chrysler and Hank Reverman. Canadian connection stories and any old Lake Union pictures -- particularly featuring people beside seaplanes -- are sought. As this project rolls along, hopefully I can contribute back to the forum some interesting snippets of aviation history.

Welcome Jules, Nice to have you here. Sounds like you can add some interesting things to the forum and there are plenty of west coast guys here that can probably help you get bit by the bug for float flying.

Hi,
Chris Buckner here. I joined the forum about a year ago but then my situation changed and I forgot all about it until this week.
I am currently a non-pilot but planning to become one ASAP. I am currently living in Germany but am planning to get my commercial licence with seaplane ratings as soon as possible when I get back to the US. Still very new and don't know much but hoping to use the forum to meet some people and gain as much knowledge as possible so that when the time comes I will be prepared.

Greetings,
I'm new to this forum. My name is Jim Woischke. We live in central Minnesota. In the next year or so, I hope to purchase a plane on floats (ski's and wheels for the off season). It's great to fly for fun; low, slow and free from ATC instructions. Fly safe.

howdy Jim. I second CFII, if you are into experimentals I know a little something about them, Avids and Kitfox in particular on several different float set ups. I spent the money on floats to figure out what works well and what doesn't.

Hi, Patrick here. New to floats but I have over 500 hours ferrying over water. Added the seaplane rating this year at Jones Brothers. Look forward to building hours in Maine! Currently in Asia most of the time. Look forward to catching up at Oshkosh and Greenville...............
