A pilot had to make a hard landing on the Tennessee River in Decatur Thursday afternoon after flying too low.
AL.com news partner WHNT News 19 reports that the pilot, who is from Chattanooga, was doing survey work in the area when his amphibious plane went too low, forcing him to land it on the water just off the Hudson Bridge leading into Decatur. When he tried to restart the plane, it would not start.
Both the pilot and his sole passenger were uninjured. The plane was towed to shore by emergency responders, who are helping the pilot obtain a new battery to fly back home.
