Harbour Air and Kenmore Air recently announced a new seaplane service between downtown Vancouver and downtown Seattle beginning on April 26.

The new route will help connect the two cities and bolster greater opportunities to collaborate in the Cascadia region for business, research and tourism.

“We are thrilled to expand our relationship with Kenmore Air to launch this new international route that will enable people to fly between downtown Vancouver and downtown Seattle in one hour,” said Randy Wright, president of Harbour Air Seaplanes in a press release. “This daily service will connect the Cascadia Corridor and be an important service for business and tourism.”

The new service brings together Harbour Air and Kenmore Air, two of the largest and most respected seaplane operations in the world. They have become a vital part of the Cascadia Corridor’s transportation infrastructure, collectively transporting more than 550,000 passengers a year. Kenmore currently operates daily seaplane service between Seattle and Victoria, B.C.

“With approximately 20,000 annual passengers currently traveling between Seattle and Victoria, we’re confident this new route will support the growing demand for further cross-border travel,” said Todd Banks, president of Kenmore Air, in a press release. “Increasing cross-border collaboration has been top of mind for government, technology and business leaders alike, and we believe this route provides a fast, convenient and much needed solution.”

“This new direct seaplane route between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. will be an important link in connecting the Cascadia Innovation Corridor,” said Brad Smith, Microsoft president in a press release. “This association between two historic Pacific Northwest companies will accelerate cross-border business and collaboration for the entire region.”

The new seaplane service will offer daily flights between Vancouver’s Coal Harbour and Seattle’s Lake Union, and will include additional air service to Kenmore Air’s Seaplane Base on Lake Washington. This flight should be very popular. Anytime you can go from downtown to downtown it save tons of time and frustration. Interstate I-5 goes north and south. Interstate I-405 is the around Seattle highway and it can be worst. Driving around Seattle has become very unpredictable and they are charging money for the "express" lanes. Much of the time there's no benefit because the accidents block all lanes.

We'll give it a year to get the word out and see if it's something that will be expanded to more cities.
